The second Beaver River Station
Title:  The second Beaver River Station
Description:  When the original Bearve river Station burned in 1940, the railroad chose to move and renovate the track department bunk house and turn it into the second station. It was sold before the end of passenger service in the 1960's and moved a sort distance up the road to be used as a camp.

Description:  The building retains most of its railroad features. It is identical to the other surviving former bunk house in Nelson Lake (also now a camp) as they were both railroad standard "Italian Shanties", given that name due to the track departments being composed primarily of Italian laborers.

Title:  Untitled
Description:  Our attempt to walk the tracks from Beaver River to Brandreth was a failure for the second time. This time due to weather delays and time constraints. We did spend some time exploring the railroad sights in and around Beaver River though. This view looking south at the south switch for the passing siding. The water tank was once located to the right where the tree is now.

Description:  Looking north west from the first crossing we see the site of the original Norrigewock Hotel which burned in 1914. Its sidewalk still remains. The current building is known as "The Annex" and was moved here some time after the second hotel was built on the other side of the tracks.

Description:  Looking north from the previous spot. The area at left where the hi-rail trucks are parked is where the first (and second) Beaver River station once stood, before burring down in 1940. Many residenst of Beaver River own hi-rail trucks and hold operating permits to travel the tracks from Big Moose to access their camps. There are no roads to Beaver River.

Description:  The Norridgewock 3. This building replaced the second hotel which also burned down. It is a very nice establishment with good food and cold beer, despite being run by the original "rip up the railroad" proponent.

Title:  Untitled
Description:  Looking back south from the end of the siding. The rumors I have heard is that this siding is supposed to be extended as it only holds about four passenger cars. If true the red building, which is on railroad property but is not a railroad building, will have to be moved or removed.

Title:  Untitled
Description:  End of the line for our hike today. The six mile kayak trip back across the reservoir to Stillwater Landing meant that we needed to be mindful of our time. The next two and a half miles of track to milepost 81 is frustratingly inaccessible to me at this point as this was the second attempt to get there for me with the same results.
