MP 81 is an original wooden one but has seen better days. Same can be said for it's modern replacement. |

Brandreth Station |
Description: |
The main reason for continuing to Brandreth was to see the efforts that were put forth by Adirondack Railroad volunteer John Taibi to clear the former station foundation since our last visit. Much improved. The Brandreth station had an interesting history. The original structure built by the Brandreth family was turned into a freight house in 1913 when a new, larger building was built by New York Central. This building, similar in design and size to Big Moose and Childwold, burned to the ground in 1920 after being struck by lightning. This was the same year the Mac A Mac railroad closed. At that time the original station was moved to the burned station's foundation where it once again served passengers until its closing in the 1960s. It later also succumbed to fire, reportedly arson, in the 1970s. |

Section Foreman's House |
Description: |
About 1/4 mile north of the station foundation is the foundation of the former section foreman's house. I had previously believed this to be the foundation of the relocated freight station but was set straight by John Tabi's book "Silver Rails Through the Heart of the Park". The state hired brush cutting crew opened up the view quite a bit since my last visit. |

Bridge over the Beaver River |
Description: |
We crossed this bridge from the north on our hike years ago south from Nehasane. The track crews last year have replaced 100% of the ties on the bridge now and most of the ones on the approach. |

Milepost 82 |
Description: |
MP 82 is in much worse condition since our last visit. New mileposts are part of the plan along with track rehab though. We came to this location looking for a dissembled Barnhart Log Loader that is located here. Not knowing its exact location (MP 81.99 east side) and with the foliage starting to fill in, with very few hours left in the day to get back to Stillwater landing, we did not succeed in locating it. It is here though. I've seen pictures that prove it! |
