Believe it or not, this remote spot in the Adirondacks was once a bustling railroad town with not only the Adirondack Mainline coming through, but two short line railroads as well: the Maple Valley Railroad to the west and the Wake Robin Railroad (narrow gauge) to the east. Both were owned by A. Augustus Lowe, who also built the Horseshoe Station. |

Approaching the station site. A rusty pole barley visible in the bushes on the left is a remnant of one of the station platform lights. In addition to the Station, other facilities once located here included: Water tank, bunk house, tool house, warehouse, sawmill, pump house and engine houses for both the Wake Robin and Maple Valley Railroads. Many of the foundations for which can still be found today. |
